Harry Potter font Google Docs – The best solution

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling has been a great success, and the books are still being read today. So it’s no surprise that you want to use the typical Harry Potter font on your Google Docs document. Maybe you’re writing something related and want to put a title with the right font.

Is there an official Harry Potter font?

Searching on the internet for an official release of the Harry Potter font, it seems that there’s not one yet. But if you don’t mind using some free fonts, there’s one that everyone seems to consider as the most similar.

It’s called Harry P, and you can download the zip file from here: https://www.dafont.com/harry-p.font

How do I use the Harry Potter font in Google Docs?

Unfortunately one of the big problems with Google Docs is that there’s no way to add custom fonts, you’re limited to only those provided by Google.

This means that in Google Docs documents, you’re restricted to what Google provides to you. Even if you have some custom fonts correctly installed on your computer, you will not be able to use them. This is not because Google is crazy, but because it’s an online tool, and it’s a great collaborative tool, and sharing a text written with custom fonts can be a problem if others don’t have it installed on their computers.

However, Google Docs has a very big selection of fonts, so I started digging in the list to find the best matching alternative.

I found what seems the best alternative, it’s not the exact same, but if you want something that’s only a Harry Potter-style font you can use it.

It’s called “Henny Penny”, and you can find it in the Google Docs directory of fonts:

  • Click on the Drop-down menu and select “More fonts”.

  • This will open a new window where you can find the entire collection of Fonts.
  • You can dig into the list as I did, but the one I found is probably the best match, so it’s better to save some time and directly search for “Henny Penny” with the search box on the top left.
  • Now you just need to select it and click on OK.
  • Then you can start to write with your new harry potter-like font.

Here’s a quick direct comparison: on top, you can see the original Harry Potter logo, and on the bottom are the same words but using Henny Penny.

I know, it’s not the same, but that’s the closest you can get to the Harry Potter font on Google Docs documents.

Conclusions

Using Google Docs to write, organize and share your documents is a great solution, but it comes with compromises. Whether you’re using it to write books, articles or any other documents you have to accept the limitations of Google Docs, and not being able to use custom fonts is one of them.
